Well, not exactly us, but our present office address has been a focus of trade from the Middle Ages.
First an Assembly for the Wool Trade where “staples” (geddit?) of wool were weighed and taxed, then in the 15th century it was leased to the Inns of Court to house students training to become barristers. It remained a legal hub until sold to auctioneers in 1884 for £80,000. It survived (so just) the Great London Fire of September 1666, but was directly hit in August 1944 by a German doodlebug.
Home to Dr Johnson and written about by Charles Dickens, “it is one of those nooks the turning into which, out of the clashing streets, imparts to the relieved pedestrian the sensation of having put cotton in his ears and velvet soles on his boots”.
